To preserve evidence of a typical Zemgale farmer’s farmstead for generations to come in 1975 the collective farm ‘’Uzvara’’ started to develop an open-air museum. A dwelling house, a threshing barn, two granaries, a cattle-shed and a forge were taken to the territory of the museum and reconstructed. The furniture, the dishes, the clothing and the tools placed in the museum buildings reflect working and household conditions of farmers and country craftsmen in Zemgale in the first half of the 20th century.
Museum of Motorcars
The second part of the exhibition is devoted to machinery. In the 20th century motorcars and tractors replaced horses on the roads of Latvia. In the museum you can explore one the biggest collections of agricultural tractors in Latvia, as well as a wide collection of motorcars, trucks and special automobiles. Some of the objects of exhibition are limited edition pieces. In the Museum of Motorcars you can take a look at more than 100 different items of machinery. The exposition of agricultural tractors is the biggest in the Baltics. You can see such tractor brands Fordson, DT-20, MTZ-5 that were very popular in Latvia in the past, as well as the brands Case and John-Deere that were very rarely found in Latvia during the 1930ties. The exposition of motorcars provides rare exhibits – car designs like Opel Kapitan and Opel Admiral Cabriolets that during the end of the 30ties were built in a very limited edition in small workshops. The oldest exhibit of the collection is an Albion A10 truck that was constructed in Great Britain in 1916 – this was the most popular truck in the Latvian Army during the 1920ties. The exposition consists of more than 40 different units representing the period from 1916 to 1994. Several of the samples were used by well-renowned and influential people.
